What is CUSP?

CUSP is a Food Council project working with area gardeners to facilitate the sale of herbs and produce to local restaurants. Beginning with sales to the Cygnus 27 restaurant in 2008, we are expanding this year to include a number of additional restaurants and need many more growers to help supply the demand for chemical free and freshly grown produce. Producers are mainly backyard and community gardeners but we are also working with some local farmers.

Purpose:

To increase the number of people growing food in urban areas and to demonstrate small scale agricultural economic development in urban areas.

How Does It Work?

You connect with CUSP organizers about growing produce or herbs for CUSP and learn about the program and plant what you want to grow for CUSP. Once a week you will call in or email the list of produce or herbs you have available to the broker, who organizes the information and organizes orders from the restaurants based on what we have available that week. You will then bring what you want to sell to the broker at a designated DROP OFF point (one in Grand Rapids, one in Muskegon). You will be paid after the sale of the produce to the restaurant.

Requirements:

You have to grow your own produce. You have to be able to bring your washed & weighed produce to the designated locations during the pick-up times. (Check with your broker about herbs - some should not be washed). We will provide packaging and accurate weighing at the pickup site.
