Come grow with us!  2011 is the sixth season of the new, re-organized Perkins Community Garden.  Hundreds of pounds of produce have been grown to feed families from throughout Grand Rapids.  A wide variety of gardening styles are employed, including gardeners that grow plants that remind them of home, be that a Hudsonville farm, a garden in the deep south, or even traditional crops from Guatemala or India.

Want to join us with a plot of your own in 2012?  Contact Paul to get on the mailing list for 2012 application.

The Perkins Community Garden was re-established with the help of the Greater Grand Rapids Food Systems Council in 2006.  The garden is fully plumbed and access to water is included in the modest $50 rental fee ($30 senior or low-income for first plot).  The typical plot is about 1,000 square feet, most often 25' by 40'.

Each year, we have a limited number of plots open for new members.  Existing members must complete application and pay their fee in full by April 9, 2011 to reserve their plot.  Open plots will then be made available to new gardeners on a first come, first served basis.  Priority will be determined by the date application and payment is received.

Summer! The entire garden area is fenced.  Members of the garden community make sure that the fence stays in good repair so the local critters stay in the woods where they belong.  In years past, members of our community were able to also secure donations of woodchip mulch, straw, and horse manure to share with other gardeners to help build the soil.

Consider what you might grow in 2012 with a little soil, sun and water and come join us!

Special thanks to our partners in the City of Grand Rapids
Water and Parks departments for a successful 2010!
