BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE GUIDE
The West Michigan Local Food Guide was first published by the Greater Grand Rapids Food Systems Council in 2005. In 2007 25,000 copies of a 48 page printed guide were published in June and distributed in a 10 county area in and around West Michigan. The guide is also available as a PDF (nearly 200 hits per month) and guide listings can be searched through an on-line database of over 250 farms, farmers markets and other food related businesses.

The guide includes listings within a 50-60 mile radius of Grand Rapids with categories such as:
• farmers markets
• farm stands
• u-pick farms
• community supported agriculture (CSA) farms
• local meat, dairy, egg, honey, maple syrup and other producers
• grocers & health stores that carry locally raised foods
• restaurants & caterers that use local food


This year we also plan to add:
• community gardens
• garden and nursery suppliers
• local processors and distributors
• health & nutrition resources
• food system education organizations
• wineries & breweries
• pantries, food banks & soup kitchens
• community kitchens
• certified organic farms
